VETERANS DAY-A PRESIDENTIAL TRIBUTE

 This day we honor and thank our men and women in the Armed Services and all our Veterans for your valor and dedication  to preserving the liberty and the life we enjoy today.  We are humbled by your courage and patriotism in defining our freedoms.

  With malice toward none; with charity for all, with firmness in the right; let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.

HOME OWNERSHIP MATTERS

While it is true that not everyone is financially able to buy a home,  recent data from the Federal Reserve shows that the median net worth of homeowners is more than $200,000 compared with $5,000 for families who rent.   Homeowners start building equity, can take advantage of  the mortgage interest deduction and capital gains exemption.  Home buyers stimulate the economy and jobs market across the board.   Check out any Home Depot or Lowe’s on the weekend to see the flurry of activity of people improving their homes with paint, hardware, landscaping.   Most of the work generated by the sales of homes remains in the United States!   Owning a home is a part of the American experience of independence and responsibility.  A home is where we start family traditions, create an environment to nurture our children, a safe haven, a respite from the outside world, the center of our life.   It is called the American Dream and there is value and pride when you have an investment for your family which strengthens your community,  builds a stable society and ultimately contributes to this  great nation.

Clifton Candlelight Homes Tours

Get into the Christmas spirit!   December 3rd is our annual Clifton Candlelight Homes Tours featuring 5 homes decorated in Christmas finery, and live music at the Clifton Baptist Church and the Clifton Presbyterian Church.  Be charmed by the Dickens Carolers on Main Street and at 2 pm the horse parade with festive costumed riders sponsored by the Clifton Horse Society.

 

Tickets are $20 if bought before December 3.

Hello World!

I really like reading blogs so I thought it would be great to have one of my hometown, Clifton, VA.   I’m in love with my town.  Cross over the railroad tracks when you’re driving from Clifton Rd east into the town.  You will feel like you stepped back 80 yrs when you see the Clifton General Store on your right with the big Texaco sign.  Park in front of the benches  and walk right into nostalgia. 

 Charming worn linoleum floors reminded me of my Aunt’s home in Akron Ohio and the good food within. Tom and Judy McNamara run this with their children, so it’s a family operation, a grocery store and pub.   They’ll come to your table, lean over and talk about what’s going on, sports, local news while they refill your glasses.   It is our neighborhood’s Central Perk..warm, friendly and cozy.   Eat the best burger and fries, Fish and Chips or Reuben you ever tasted  in the Main St. Pub at the back of the store.  If you check this out in the warmer weather you may want to eat outside just to soak up the charm, see what magic Judy is creating in her flower shop on site,  hear the VRE wheezing by and watching the kids climb all over the standing caboose across the street.  This is life here..like comfort food wrapped up in a clapboard storefront.
